How To Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone

There are times in life when we have to take a risk- it could be that in order to get a better job you need to move home, you may want to establish your own business rather than staying in a job or you are going to go out when you have been single for a while and feel nervous. Whatever the reason there are ways to help you confront your anxiety and help you escape your comfort zone.

What else is out there?

This might sound strange but it is worth taking a moment to consider what you want to achieve and what could be holding you back. Often there are aspects that if you are honest with yourself you know what you have to do- for example if you want to become a Hollywood movie star you probably wouldn’t stick around Great Yarmouth market (and if that sounds ludicrous consider that this really did happen with former professional diver and Hollywood superstar Jason Statham!)

Try something new

Sometimes the approach can be as simple as ordering tuna when you’d normally have bacon in your lunchtime sandwich or trying a Thai restaurant rather than the usual kebab on the way home. Small changes can be the first step toward making big ones!

Declutter

While it has become a bit of a cliché it is true that decluttering your home can be a great way of helping you mentally relax and refocus. If you haven’t worn something or used it in a year, then get rid of it.

Learn a new skill

Don’t feel comfortable around computers? Go to the library and become more confident with your skills. There are a lot of classes and online tutorials available that can help you develop.

Seek out inspirational stories

If you admire a writer and want to follow in their footsteps and find out how they got published. Often if you learn more about the stories behind their success you will often learn the hard work that got them to that point and the fact they are not as different from you as you may think.

Try improv

Improvisation is not just great fun but it is also a useful way to deal with the part of the brain that focuses on doubt and logic. Improvisation teaches us how to react to someone else and work with them and this in turn can be a great way to help you deal with the unusual events the world can throw at you.

Talk to people outside your immediate circle

The problem with friends who are part of your work environment or one particular interest is that they can be quite focused on one particular aspect. Going to concerts, networking events, trade fairs etc can be a good way to find other people with a different perspective to talk to.
